In 1992 she won a sholarship of British Council and worked for six months in Great Britain. In 1994 she held the position of General Secretary of the Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO. She was and is involved in a number of international projects as a representative of the Lithuanian Librarians' Association or Vilnius University: TEMPUS, SOCRATES, EU PHARE and OSI project Development of Public Libraries CECUP, CELIP, etc.

Main teaching subjects and research interests include:

• information management,
• information resources and reference work,
• communication theory,
• international/intercultural communication.

Elena has supported the idea of ICIMSS as a Centre of Excelence in information and library studies for the Central and Eastern Europe region since its inception and has taken an active part in what she calls "this adventure" from the very beginning, helping to bring the Centre to reality.

I have long supported the idea of ICIMSS as an exclusive Centre for Excellence in Information and Library studies in the Central and Eastern European region. I've taken part in this adventure from the very beginning and find that I've enjoyed the wonderful company of interesting people who have been a part of this project. I know the students who enroll in the program of studies will be exposed to the same dynamic people, and experience new ways of thinking from their teachers and from one another.

I am delighted to work on the project, and to promote ICIMSS within our Baltic states.
