Richard E. Quandt was born in Hungary and obtained his university education
in the US, receiving a BA in Economics from Princeton University, and an MA
and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. He taught at Princeton University from
1956 to 1995 and has specialized in econometrics and mathematical economics.
He is the author or co-author of over 10 books and 150 articles published in
various professional journals. His scholarly contribution in various areas of
academic interest has been recognized and appreciated worldwide. He was a
consultant of various governmental agencies and corporations. Since 1990 he
has been Senior Advisor at The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, where he directed
the East European Program, co-directed the Electronic and Digital Library
Program, and is a staff member in the South African Program. He received
honorary doctorates from Hungarian, Slovak, and Canadian universities.
For his great impact on the development of Polish libraries' computerization
Richard Quandt has been also awarded a Medal of Merit by Nicholas Copernicus
University, Poland, Merit Citation and Medal Merentibus of the Jagiellonian
University, Krakow, Poland. He retains an affiliation with Princeton
University as a Senior Research Scholar.
