With the newly opened opportunities of extension of the existing IST contracts with NAS (New Accession States) partners, the International Center for Information Management, System and Services (ICIMSS) at Torun, Poland has submitted a proposal under "Action line IST-2001-VIII.1.6: Extension of existing IST contracts with NAS partners" to extend and promote the achievements and activities of DELOS to the Eastern European countries.

DELOS is an initiative funded by the European Commission's Information Society Technologies 5th Framework Programme (IST-FP5). Its objectives are described at the DELOS home page.

NAS countries include Bulgaria, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Within DELOS-CEE, we plan to enrich the Digital Libraries module tought at ICIMSS with the organisation of additional workshops, training and tutorials organised together with DELOS for professionals from CEE countries. These activities would be extended for participants from the entire cultural heritage sector, including not only librarians, but also archivists and museum curators. Workshops, tutorials and training possibilities will also be open to participants from the cultural heritage sector from CEE countries not counted as NAS partners, such as Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Byelorussia and others, in order to disseminate the achievements of the DELOS project and to help them to learn about recent developments in the area of digital libraries before joining in such activities.
